My friend Jenna Wells has set herself to raise funds for both Cancer Research UK & The Rowans Hospice. Jenna lost her mum Susan 20 years ago this June to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma she was 46 years old. Over the past year Jenna has taken part in various running and walking events around Hampshire in preparation for her challenge and the challenge is to walk 46 miles in 16 hours with the one goal to help raise money to beat cancer sooner. The walk will start at midnight on the 4th June and aims to finish by 16:00 hours the same day.
Susan’s ashes were scattered by her family by the Church in Selborne Nr, Alton and the walk starts from here and follows along a poignant and personal route that Jenna has devised that marks key events in Susan’s life. The walk will go from Selborne to Petersfield then along to the Bishops Otter Campus in Chichester where she studied later in life to become a teacher, from there all the back to St. Francis Church in Leigh Park where she married Jenna’s dad Stephen Wells on to Meadowlands Primary School or as it’s now known Woodcroft Primary School in Lovedean. From this point in the walk Jenna’s aunt’s her mum’s sister’s and other family and friends will join her on the final section of the walk to the Rowans Hospice, Purbrook.
Jenna will be walking the whole walk with our old school friend Catherine Brookfield and I will be the support vehicle throughout the night and will also walk the final stages with her too. This is a huge personal challenge to raise as much money as possible for two such brilliant causes and take a very emotional walk down memory lane on the 20th anniversary of Susan’s passing.
